History

The Federal Aviation Administration, through its Airway Science Program, awarded DWC a grant of $3 million to be used toward the construction of an instructional facility to support the airway science curriculum and emerging distance learning technologies. The College designed the facility to fulfill its leadership role as New England's center for aviation education for current and future aviation professionals. This grant was matched by gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations as the goals of the project expanded beyond the original concept to also include becoming the region's educational leader in information technology.

The Center, which first opened its doors to students on September 1, 1999, is named for donors Joseph E. Eaton of Hingham, Mass. and Martin R. Richmond of Cambridge, Mass., long-serving trustees and benefactors of the College.

The Collings Auditorium is named for donors Robert and Caroline Collings and Rob Collings of Stow, Mass.
