Telephone and Voicemail Instructions

TELEPHONE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ON-CAMPUS: Dial the four digit extension number given.
  • OFF-CAMPUS LOCAL OR TOLL-FREE: Dial "9" for an outside line, then dial the number as listed.
  • OFF-CAMPUS LONG DISTANCE (US): Dial "9", then dial "1" and the number listed. Wait for a second dial tone, and then enter your Access Code as given to you by the Business Office for billing... the call will then connect.
    • Any problems or questions with your Access Code please contact the Business Office at 6532
  • INTERNATIONAL CALLS (or international FAX): Dial "9", then dial "011", then dial the number listed, complete with a "#". Wait for a second dial tone, and then enter your Access Code as given to you by the Business Office for billing... the call will then connect.

VOICE MAIL INSTRUCTIONS - INITIALIZING YOUR MAILBOX

  1. Lift the handset (or use hands-free dialing)
  2. Dial 6200 if on campus or 577-6200 from off campus. From off campus press * to access voicemail.
  3. Enter your default passcode, 1111.
  4. Press .The system prompts you for a new passcode (you must change the passcode).
  5. Enter your new passcode. Your new passcode must have the same number of digits as the default passcode. You cannot re-enter the default passcode, or use or in your new passcode.
  6. The system asks you to re-enter your new passcode for confirmation. Enter your new passcode again.
  7. The system asks you to record your name. Say only your name, for example: "Christine Conner". Speak immediately after the tone, and press any key when you have finished.
  8. Press to accept, to review, or to discard your name and re-record it.
  9. The system prompts you for a greeting. Keep your greeting short and professional. For example:
    "You have reached Christine Conner. I can't answer the phone right now, so please leave your name, number, and a short message – I will get back to you as soon as possible. If you need immediate assistance, press 0 and ask to be transferred to my associate, Julie Jones."
  10. To end the recording, press any key. The system plays back your greeting. Press to accept it, to review it, or to discard and re-record it.
  11. You have now successfully set up your mailbox, and can send and listen to messages.

STANDARD LOG-ON

Once you have initialized your voice mailbox (VMB), your log-on procedure is simple.

  1. Call into the voice mail system.
  2. Enter "#" and your VMB number.
  3. Enter your Security Code.
  4. At this point, the system will tell you that there are "X" number of New Messages, your greeting is "ON", and "READY".
  5. YOU ARE NOW IN YOUR VMB!
  6. Press 7 to listen to New Messages
  7. Press 8 for User Options
  8. Press 9 to Exit

While listening to a message, you may perform the following options:

  • 1 Pause (press any key to resume play)
  • 'A' (2) Answer (respond to sender)
  • 'D' (3) Discard (discarded messages cannot be recovered)
  • 'G' (4) Give (send message to another mailbox)
  • 'K' (5) Keep (save the message)
  • 'P' (7) Play Again (repeats same message)
  • 'N' (8) Next Message (skips ahead to next message)

EXITING YOUR MAILBOX

  • 'X' (9) Exit

Special Note: Voicemail boxes should be checked on a regular (i.e. daily) basis in order to clear accumulated messages.

EMERGENCY TEXT MESSAGING SERVICE

Daniel Webster College has implemented a text messaging service to notify the community in the case of an emergency incident on campus. The service will send a text message notification to anyone that has signed up for the service, participation is voluntary but highly recommended.

There are two ways to register for the service, send a text message from your cell phone or register online. To register online visit http://web.dwc.edu/alertsreg.htm and enter your phone number with area code and choose your phone carrier, you can also unsubscribe from this page.

The register via mobile phone send "alerts", without the quotes to 23907. You should receive a message back confirming your registration.

All registrations will be kept confidential. This service will only be used in the event of an emergency.
