Scope: Although well-known for her publication of famed novel “Little Women,” 19th century American author Louisa May Alcott, published numerous short stories. Education, women’s rights, and reform in general were the subjects for her writings. Since Alcott spent most of her life in Concord, Massachusetts and surrounding towns, she brings 19th century New England life to modern readers. (Facts on File Companion to the American Short Story)
