Scope: Donald Barthelme was a newspaper reporter and author of short fiction and novels. He rejected traditional elements of literature and created a bizarre, disconnected world. His popularity grew with the publication of his novel
Snow White in 1967. Barthelme received critical acclaim after the publication of
City Life, a collection of short studies.
