SCOPE: Most individuals experience periods of sadness or a feeling of being down in the dumps at some point in their lives. But, this feeling passes without interrupting our daily lives. The diagnosis of major depressive order occurs when an individual experiences a depressed mood, loses interest in activities for a period of two weeks, has difficulty concentrating and has thoughts of suicide or death. ( Nevid, Abnormal Psychology in a Changing World)
