Pathfinder: Endangered Species

Scope|Subject Headings|Overview Sources|Circulating Books|Periodicals, Journals & Trade Publications|Web Sites

SCOPE: In 1973 the Endangered Species Act was established to protect rare plant and animal species from possible extinction. Specific areas are designated for critical habitat for the species on the Endangered Species List. Private lands are purchased for the purpose of consolidating habitat and preventing its destruction by commercial development. ( Ashworth, Encyclopedia of Environmental Studies) The purpose of this pathfinder is to serve as a guideline for students in locating library resources on the topic of endangered species. It is not intended as a comprehensive listing, but as a selective sampling of some of types of materials available in the library.
