Scope: Langston Hughes, an Afro- American poet, became prominent during the 1920's with the period of the Harlem Renaissance. It is interesting to note that Hughes was the first Black American to earn his living by writing and public speaking. He is known for his lyrical style of poetry. His autobiographical novel is called The Big Sea.
