Scope: The Industrial Revolution began in the late 1790s and early 19th century in America with the influx of new ideas and new inventions. After the Civil War the climate was ripe for industrial and technological development. Notable, wealthy industrialists Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller influenced the rise of business.
Millions of immigrants arriving from Europe increased the population of the United States and provided the much needed labor force for factories. Turnpikes, canals, and railroads were built to aid in the transportation of goods to other markets. (Olson, James S. Encyclopedia of the Industrial Evolution in America)
