SCOPE: The concept of leadership may be defined as a process by which one individual intentionally exerts influence that causes others to engage in voluntary, goal-directed behavior (Helms, Marilyn, Encyclopedia of Management). Just what are the characteristics that make a good leader? Are personality, charisma, determination, and assertiveness necessary attributes for successful leadership? The purpose of this pathfinder is to serve as a guideline for student research. It is not intended as a comprehensive listing of all of the resources available in the library on this topic, but as a selective sampling of the many types of materials available.
