Scope: There is a crisis facing today’s national parks. Federal funding is not adequate to cover the costs of maintaining the parks and conducting experiments that will help preserve endangered species. The park service receives 29.5 billion a year, but not nearly enough to manage 84 million acres in 390 park units. (CQ Researcher, Oct. 06, 2006)
