Borrowing Privileges
Full Borrowing privileges are extended to DWC students (full-time and continuing studies), faculty, and staff.

The limited privilege of borrowing books is extended to DWC alumni, patrons from institutions belonging to the New Hampshire College and University Council (NHCUC) Consortium with a current valid ID, and Nashua residents or business with a current DWC library card. Other institutions may borrow materials (for their patrons) through InterLibrary Loan.

ID/Library Cards and Barcodes
All Library patrons, including faculty and staff, must have a Daniel Webster College identification card, or a library card with a barcode attached, in order to borrow materials. College ID cards are available at the Security Office in Daniel Webster Hall for all students, faculty, and staff.

DWC alumni and Nashua residents need a current DWC library card, available at the Circulation Desk, to check out books. Expiration dates on the DWC library cards are for the current semester, either fall or spring, and during the summer session. Cards may be renewed with verification of patron's current status as a valid user.

First time users need to allow extra time for staff members to issue barcodes and enter patron records into the system. Student workers, for security reasons, are not permitted to enter data into patron records. Library staff are generally available between 8:00am and 9:30pm.

How Many Items
A maximum of 20 circulating items, including up to 3 videos, may be checked out per student and non-affiliated users by presenting a valid ID/Library card; faculty and staff members are authorized to borrow 40 items at any given time.

Media Equipment

Baddour Library’s primary purpose for lending media equipment is to provide technology to support the College’s academic instruction program or officially sanctioned College events. Our highest priority is to insure that the media equipment needs of the academic program are met. Our greatest challenge is to manage the shared-use of this small but very popular media equipment collection. Equipment, especially laptops, is not intended for repeated use by an individual borrower. It cannot replace personal equipment or be counted upon for repeated use for course work. The following policies are in place to insure timely and efficient access to the equipment for loan at Baddour Library:

  • Baddour Library provides media equipment for loan to DWC students, faculty and staff with a valid DWC ID card. Only current DWC faculty, students and staff may reserve and use equipment. A valid DWC ID card must be presented at time of equipment check-out.
  • Priority is given to media equipment use that supports:
    1. The academic instruction program; or
    2. Official College events
  • Equipment may be reserved in advance by booking needed items at the Library’s Check-Out Desk, by phoning the main service number at 577-6559, or by emailing librarian@dwc.edu. Requests are scheduled on a first-come/reserved basis. However, a reservation is subject to cancellation should an academic or curriculum-related priority arise. Only permanent library staff can book equipment.
  • Equipment must be picked up and returned by the person who has booked the equipment. In the event that a faculty or staff member, who has booked the equipment, is unable to pick it up at the reserved time, another person may pick it up for the borrower; however, the Equipment Responsibility Form must be signed by the party who booked the equipment prior to check-out.
  • Equipment circulates for the following loan periods:
    1. Laptops – 24 hours
Faculty or staff requiring a laptop for conference presentations should contact the Library Director or the Access Services Manager to arrange for an extended loan period. Student requests for an extended loan period must have faculty verification. Extended loans are limited to no more than five (5) days.
    2. Portable DVD Player – 24 hours
    3. All other equipment – 72 hours (Portable LCD projectors circulate only to faculty and staff.)
  • At the time of check-out, equipment is assumed to be in good working condition. Persons borrowing equipment are responsible for notifying the library immediately of any problems experienced with the performance or condition of equipment.
  • Loss or damage of borrowed equipment will be charged at the replacement cost of the equipment and supplies, as determined by Baddour Library, plus a $25.00 processing fee. Equipment borrowing privileges will be suspended.
  • Upon return of equipment, borrowers must remain with the equipment until it is checked in at the Circulation Desk. This insures that all borrowed pieces of equipment have been returned.
  • Library staff does not deliver or set up audio-visual equipment, nor provide videotaping services. Digital video tapes are available for purchase at the library service desk.

InterLibrary Loan
This service allows the library to borrow materials from other libraries for DWC students, faculty, and staff. The request may be made in person or via email to Marilyn Frankland. Forms are available from the Circulation Desk or online. Allow a minimum of two weeks for delivery. Items borrowed from a library within New Hampshire arrive by a van twice weekly. Items borrowed from outside the state must arrive by U.S. mail or U.P.S. There is no patron fee for this service.

Overdue, Loss & Damage
Overdue fees are not charged.

Lost or damaged books, videos or CDs:
Replacement costs will be assessed at a minimum of $60.00 and a maximum fee of $500.00 per item.

Unsettled fines and fees may prevent a patron from checking out or renewing materials.

Renewals
If you need to use an item for longer than the original loan period, avoid overdue notices by renewing it. All four-week loan materials may be renewed if there is not hold or recall on the item. With the book's author and title plus complete patron ID information, patrons may renew an item by phone (577-6559). Seven-day and three-day loans may be renewed once barring a hold or recall on the item. Overnight course reserves may not be renewed.

InterLibrary Loan renewals are at the discretion of the lending library and cannot be automatically renewed. Patrons must request a renewal prior to the due date with the InterLibrary Loan supervisor, Marilyn Frankland.

Recalls
The Library reserves the right to recall any material before it is due when a professor has requested the item for course reserves.

Holds
Patrons may request that holds be placed on circulating materials, which are currently checked out. When the item is returned, the patron will be notified of its availability. The item will be held at the Circulation Desk for three days.

Course Reserves
Professors may set materials aside in the Library for their classes to use or post electronic files to the library catalog. The Circulation Supervisor maintains course reserves.

Tangible materials are kept at the Circulation Desk, may be borrowed for two (2) hours, and must be used in the library. The only exception is for those items specifically designated for overnight use. These may be checked out one hour prior to closing and must be returned to the library the following morning by one hour after opening. Patrons must present a valid library ID to check out reserve materials.

Electronic files may be in the following formats: .pdf, .doc, .wav, .mp3, .ppt, .bmp, .png, .jpg, .txt and .tiff. These are available to students 24/7 from the library catalog. For more information, see the Electronic Course Reserves Policy.

Directions for placing items on reserve are available on the Faculty Services page.
