SPORTS AND THE MEDIA

Scope|Subject Headings|Overview Sources|Circulating Books|Periodicals, Journals & Trade Publications

SCOPE: Television, newspapers, and magazines play a huge role in the coverage of sports events. Millions of dollars are spent on advertising campaigns to promote a specific sport or athlete. How and when a particular sports event is covered in the media influences who actually views the event. This so-called audience building is a planned attempt to target a specific market group to advertisers. ( Yiannakis, Contemporary Issues in Sociology of Sport) The purpose of this pathfinder is to serve as a guideline for student resource.
