Pathfinder: Substance Abuse

SCOPE:  Substance abuse occurs when an individual demonstrates repeated use of a substance, which may result in physical harm, multiple legal problems, and recurrent social and interpersonal problems. (DSM IV)   Individuals may have problems at work, have unexcused absences at school, and have difficulties with relationships. Substance abuse may cause a deterioration of health. Aggressive and violent behavior may be associated with substance abuse.
