SCOPE: For hundreds of years women have played a significant role in both world and U.S. History. Women in the fields of aviation, art, science, business, literature, and the environment as well as other arenas have made contributions to society. This pathfinder will focus on specific resources that will provide an in-depth analysis of the role of women in society and will serve as a guideline for student research.

American Women's History: A Research Guide http://frank.mtsu.edu/~kmiddlet/history/women.html Maintained by Kenneth Middleton, a Librarian from Middle Tennessee State University. This site is divided into 27 areas of women's history including aviation, immigrants, Jewish women, Colonial America, etc. A nice feature is the digital archive with links to primary sources and World War I posters.

Feminist Theory Website http://www.cddc.vt.edu/feminism/ Developed by Kristina Switala,from the University of Tennessee, this award-winning site links to contributions from scholars and specialists from all over the world. The site is available in English, Spanish, and French.
National Women's History Project
http://www.nwhp.org/ Created by the Women's History Project, which was started in 1980 as a non-profit agency to promote educational awareness of the importance of women's contributions to society. There is an interesting section called the Learning Place that has links to biographies of notable women from historical figures such as Harriet Tubman to such contemporaries as Maya Angelou and Madeleine Albright. Links for parents, teachers, and students are especially helpful.
Women and Social Movements in the United States, 1775-2000 http://womhist.binghamton.edu/ This excellent site was partially funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and has links to 800 primary source documents by date and subject. There are also links in the categories of webographies.
Women in American History http://search.eb.com/women/ From Encyclopedia Britannica, this site covers women's history from 1600 to the present, including articles, a media gallery, primary sources, and links to additional resources.
