“Daniel Webster College’s CTI Program in High Demand”

Daniel Webster College is one of thirteen colleges worldwide participating in the Federal Aviation Administration’s collegiate training initiative to educate the next generation of controllers. The current need for professionals in the field is real; statistically, three controllers retire every day resulting in major understaffing throughout the ATC system. There are only three ways to enter the field: Going through an off the street application process, obtaining military experience, or attending a CTI school such as DWC. The college route is the most benefitial because it will both prepare students for real world conditions by testing in realistic computer simulated settings as well as learning from professors with real world experiences.

Jayson Pierre-Jules, a junior, is one such student taking advantage of the CTI program. He plans to complete his education next year and go on to a career at a FAA facility. During an interview he answered the following questions:

Does DWC provide a bridge from college to the FAA? “The program here sets you up with the tests you need to take and they send your degree to the FAA when you graduate. All the CTI programs in the country combined have a 90% hire rate and DWC is one of the best.”

How has DWC prepared you? “The radar simulators are beneficial because you can go to a real facility and see the similarities between the two. I believe that the training students get here will set them apart from other trainees once we get to our assigned facilities. The instructors have real world experience and are able to incorporate it into their teaching.”

Do you believe that you will have an advantage over people going into ATC who did not attend a CTI school? “Yes, there is no substitute for the course work that we take here; it is highly beneficial because they force us to memorize a ton of information which parallels the real world, and if you can make it at DWC, then you can make it in the real world. If people are not used to that work load, I can’t see them succeeding in the career.”

CTI schools like Daniel Webster will see an exponential increase in enrollment based on the FAA’s need for a new trained and educated workforce. That education and training starts here.

Daniel Webster College.  Success starts here.  Right away.  From day one.
