Grob G-109 Motorglider

Grob G-109 MotorgliderDynamic flight education at Daniel Webster College isn't an exception, it is a rule. As part of the variety of aircraft a Daniel Webster College student expects to be introduced to, the Grob G-109 is unique.

Grob G-109 Motorglider CockpitThe Grob G-109 Motorglider is a very special aircraft in the Daniel Webster College fleet, and for good reason... we are one of the only schools to incorporate glider operations into the flight curriculum of our students. It is unique in the fact that it flies with the characteristics of a glider, but has the safety and convenience of an engine. The Grob G-109 can take-off on its own, and under its own power, climb to altitude and can be flown with the engine in operation or not in operation. When the engine is not being used, the aircraft is a true glider and has performance comparable to many popular training gliders. The engine can be restarted in flight for landing, or can land like a normal glider, unpowered with no safety compromise.

The Grob G-109 is crucial to the flight education curriculum as it is a platform for the exploration of aerodynamics, energy management, and micrometeorology... all concepts that are discussed in the classroom and that are the basis for the principles of flight and interaction with the environment.
