Flight Dispatch

Flight Dispatch DeskThe Daniel Webster College Flight Dispatch is the heart of all flight operations at the DWC Aviation Center. Dispatch is responsible for controlling the distribution of aircraft in operation for flights and lessons, updating operational status of aircraft, monitoring the student/instructor schedule and flight following for all Daniel Webster College aircraft.

Also at the Dispatch desk is the Flight Scheduling desk. Daniel Webster College operates both a hard and soft scheduling system. A student requests a time block at each course planning period which will fit best with their class load during the next semester and is assigned base schedule of three blocks per week on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday rotation. Like any other class, flight students are required to attend their flight block regardless of weather or other circumstances that might cancel a flight that day. On these occasions, many instructors will brief with the student about upcoming flights or simulator lessons can be accomplished. If there are any conflicts or changes needed to the base schedule, the Flight Scheduler will handle it on a case-by-case basis.

Soft scheduling is based solely on instructor availability and student availability. If a student opts to fly more than their assigned base schedule allows that week, the student may ask to be soft scheduled by an instructor. This allows the student to fly or brief with an instructor when both schedules allow. Sunday is assigned as a soft schedule day, and depending on student and instructor availability, can be used to complement any base schedule.
