Weather & Preflight Planning

A crucial part of the flight process is the obtainment of information relating to the weather and environment in which the flight will take place. In a very diverse climate such as New Hampshire, this is of the utmost importance as conditions change regularly. Daniel Webster College uses a variety of resources to make weather and flight planning easier. Located in the Weather & Preflight Planning area, the WSI PILOTbrief II workstation is a focal point of the planning process. With a click of a mouse, pilots and students can access a wide database of text-based aviation weather reports, satellite and radar images, and prognostic charts for up to 36 hours in advance. Complementing the PILOTbrief II, the DUATS Terminal allows pilots to access the weather information used and compiled by Flight Service Stations (FSS) across the country as well as the ability to create and file flight plans with the appropriate FSS. In addition to the PC-Based systems, students and pilots can access a telephone FSS weather briefing, receive the updated Nashua Automated Terminal Information Service (ATIS) for updated airport and local Nashua weather conditions.

In the flight planning room, ample workspace is provided for course plotting and calculations prior to flight.
