Spring 2006
Martin Karpel, a senior at Daniel Webster
majoring in Social Sciences, is currently interning at the Law Offices of
Paul Moore in Downtown Nashua. Paul Moore is a New Hampshire District Judge.
Marty’s duties consist of legal form filing, client conflict summaries,
legal research, preparation of trial exhibits, and court observance in
matters of civil, criminal, divorce, bankruptcy and real estate litigation
proceedings.
“I’m very excited to be working in the legal
community in Nashua; not only does it help me to prep for law school, but it
also awakens me to the kinds of problems that the "ordinary" people face on
a day to day basis in the local community. This internship opportunity has
reinvented my motivation to bring justice to the underprivileged and
under-represented.”

Michael Stromsnes is also a senior working as
a court advocate for Bridges, an organization for sexual and domestic
violence support. Mike spends the majority of his time at Nashua District
Court, and actually shows up there every morning...not the office. He
assists clients that are generally doing one of three things: getting a
temporary restraining order, appearing for a final hearing (permanent
order), or miscellaneous criminal appearances to motions to amend previous
orders. As an advocate, his job is to support the client first and foremost.
This is a stressful period and the legal apparatus can be pretty
overwhelming given the emotional toll placed on clients. Another important
part of Michael’s job is to make sure the client understands the legal
process from temporary order and permanent orders to enforcement and trials.
“Guidance through the legal system, and support guided through empowerment
is how you can sum this up.”
