The Social Sciences Practicum

Spring 2002 Practicum

Jon Chouinard and Katie LentSocial Science majors Jon Chouinard and Katie Lent began the first practicums of the new major this January.  Jon, whose focus within the major is on the study of political science, is working on community case studies in the Nashua office of Congressman Charlie Bass.  Katie is following her interest in history by working on educational programming and presentations at the Manchester Millyard Museum.  Both social science majors are "taking the classroom into the world" by applying their study of the social sciences in the professional world.

Fall 2002 Practicum

David ValentineSocial Science major David Valentine worked in the office of Nashua Mayor Bernard Streeter during the Fall 2002 semester.  David, who is interested in political science, attended meetings with the Mayor, assisted in the many duties involved in a busy municipal office and is also chairing a committee to celebrate the sesquicentennial of the city of Nashua.

Wilma RooneyWilma Rooney, a junior in the Social Science program from Enosborg Fall, Vermont completed her practicum in the fall semester 2002 in the office of Congressman Charles Bass.  Wilma aspires to be a lawyer and she was very interested in work that she did assisting the constituents of the Second Congressional District through her work in the Nashua office.

Spring 2003 Practicum

Crystal CarrierCrystal Carrier is a Social Science major from Hollis who wants to pursue a career in counseling.  Her interests in psychology and working as an advocate for abused women led her to work with the social service organization, Rape and Assault Support Services, which is now called BRIDGES.  Crystal has already spent over forty hours of training for the work she will be doing during her practicum.

Shannon McAloonTransferring from Aviation/Air Traffic Management to the Social Science major, Shannon McAloon of Nashua begins her practicum this Spring semester 2003 in the Nashua Park-Recreation Department.  Shannon, who also has a Sport Management concentration, will be Program Coordinator for the Junior Boys Instructional Basketball Program.  The Recreation Supervisor with whom Shannon will be working is DWC alum, Rachel Smith.
