  2. Can you major in Social Science at DWC?

    DWC's Social Science major provides a flexible program of study that includes an interdisciplinary study of social sciences; foundation courses in sociology, political science and economics; and DWC Social Science courses in computational and researches skills.

     
  3. In what way is the DWC Social Science program flexible?

    A DWC Social Science major can design his/her Social Science program to fit individual interests. DWC's program is an excellent choice for pre-law. There are course choices within the Social Science core requirements and there are options for concentrations in Business, Sport Management or Information Technology. Social Science majors can also select such experiential learning opportunities as study abroad, a Washington, D.C. semester, travel courses and internships.

     
  4. What are travel courses?

    Certain courses in the Social Science major use travel as a means of enhancing the learning that takes place in the classroom. Students studying ancient Native Americans in the senior seminar have traveled to the Southwest to experience the Anasazi culture in such places as Chaco Canyon, for example. Other senior seminars have reinforced its study of the environment by spending a week in Yellowstone National Park, as another example. Many experiential learning options are available through DWC's Social Science program.

    DWC's Social Science degree is unique in its emphasis on experiential and community learning as a means for social sciences majors to explore and assess practical applications of their theoretical knowledge, problem solving and communication skills. DWC's Social Science major is designed to take our classroom into the world. In addition to the various experiential opportunities already mentioned, all social science majors will complete one hundred hours of community service and maintain a portfolio that includes documentation and reflection upon their service activities. DWC's social sciences program is excellent preparation for many career paths.

    DWC's Social Science Degree provides excellent preparation for careers in management, government and non-profit organizations, and serves as strong foundation for students planning to pursue advanced degrees in business, law and education.
