Excellence in Teaching Award

DWC students and faculty are invited to submit nominations for this award to the Office for Academic Affairs by Monday, February 18, 2008.

Initial nominations should be completed on the official Nomination Form - click here, OR available in the office of the Dean of Academic Affairs), and should discuss what makes the faculty member an excellent teacher.

Criteria that will be considered include, but are not limited to:

  • influence of the faculty member as a teacher
  • enthusiasm for and familiarity with subject matter
  • relationships and interactions with students that impact learning
  • evidence of teaching excellence beyond the courses taught by the faculty (e.g. coordination of courses with colleagues)
  • effectiveness of students preparation for performance in subsequent courses and in major.

A Selection Committee, consisting of a minimum of two faculty members, an administrator and one upper-level student, will identify three finalists, request additional supporting materials, and make the final selection.

The award is $1,000 to the professor. The Excellence in Teaching medallion will be awarded on a yearly basis and transferred to each years honoree. A permanent plaque with each recipients name and year of recognition will be displayed.

The award may not be presented if the committee does not believe the submitted materials demonstrate excellence in teaching.
