Harold W. Buker, Jr. Scholarship
Awarded to an upper-class Flight Operations student, who demonstrates a spirit for living, learning and a love for flying.

The Harold W. Buker, Jr. Scholarship was given by his family and friends to memorialize Mr. Bukers contributions to the Aviation Industry. Harold Buker was the Director of Aeronautics for the State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation and was named an "Elder Statesman of Aviation." He was an outstanding friend and supporter of Daniel Webster College.

This award is given to an upper-class Flight Operations major (rising junior or senior) who demonstrates living, learning, and a love of flying. While financial need is a consideration, the Awards Committee and the Buker family want to support the efforts of outstanding students. The award is to be applied to tuition for the next term and will be continued annually thereafter, based upon satisfactory performance while the recipient is attending Daniel Webster College (therefore, the award competition may not be open each year).

To nominate a student for the Buker Scholarship, the following should be submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs:

  • The Award Nomination Fact Sheet that describes how the nominee meets the award criteria specified and why he/she should be recognized for it.
  • Additional letters of support may be submitted.

The submission deadline is Monday, February 18, 2008 by 5:00 pm.

Nomination information may be submitted individually or as part of a package by more than one person. Multiple nomination forms for one person are accepted and will be considered as a group. The Academic Awards Committee will select up to three nominees for this award. If a student is to be nominated for more than one award, an Award Nomination Fact Sheet must be submitted separately for each award. The recipient of the Buker Scholarship will be selected by the faculty of the Division of Aviation during the second week of March. Families of nominees will be invited to attend the awards ceremony. Notification of this student scholarship will be made in the spring. Recognition of this award will take place at the Fall Opening Convocation on September 18, 2008.

Further information regarding scholarships and awards is available in the Office for Academic Affairs and the Office of Development. Award Nomination Fact Sheets are also available in those two locations. Information may be found on the DWC Scholarship and Awards pages as well.
