Lockhart J. Smith, Jr. Scholarship
Awarded to a second year student enrolled in Aeronautical Engineering.

The Lockhart J. Smith, Jr. Scholarship is named for Lockhart Smith, professor emeritus of aeronautics at Wentworth Institute in Boston, and funded through the Aero Club of New England.

This award is given annually to a second year student enrolled in the Aeronautical Engineering degree program at Daniel Webster College and is based upon strong academic performance and contributions to the greater college community. While financial need is a consideration, the Awards Committee wants to assist students who strive to achieve their academic goals and desire to become leaders in their professions. The award is to be applied to tuition for the next year.

To nominate a student for the Smith Scholarship the following should be submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs by:

  • The Award Nomination Fact Sheet that describes how the nominee meets the award criteria specified and why he/she should be recognized for it.
  • Additional letters of support may be submitted.

The submission deadline is Monday, February 18, 2008 by 5:00 pm.

Nomination information may be submitted individually or as part of a package by more than one person. Multiple nomination forms for one person are accepted and will be considered as a group. The Academic Awards Committee will select up to three nominees for this award. If a student is to be nominated for more than one award, an Award Nomination Fact Sheet must be submitted separately for each award. The recipient of the Smith Scholarship will be selected by the faculty from the EMS division during the second week of March. Families of nominees will be invited to attend the awards ceremony. Notification of this student scholarship will be made in the spring. Recognition of this award will take place at the Fall Opening Convocation on September 18, 2008.

Further information regarding scholarships and awards is available in the Office for Academic Affairs and the Office of Development. Award Nomination Fact Sheets are also available in those two locations. Information may be found on the DWC Scholarship and Awards pages as well.
