Karen Janice Maloney Scholarship

The Karen Janice Maloney Scholarship was established by Robert and Diane Maloney of Merrimack, New Hampshire, in memory of their daughter Karen Janice Maloney, class of ’91. In establishing this scholarship, the Maloney’s memorialized Karen’s enthusiasm for flight by providing opportunities for students who share the same dream.

The scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to a senior female student, majoring in flight operations, who has demonstrated a love for flying and that aviation is to be her career.

Karen Janice Maloney was born on September 10, 1969 in Manchester, New Hampshire. She graduated from Mount Saint Mary Seminary in June of 1987 and came to Daniel Webster College that September. On May 15, 1988 Karen made her first solo flight. She earned her Private Pilot Certificate on November 24, 1989. Karen Maloney was on a routine training flight when she and her DWC Flight Instructor perished in a plane accident on January 17, 1991. On May 11, she was awarded her Bachelor of Science Degree in Aviation Management/Flight Operations posthumously.

Karen enjoyed skiing, singing, listening to music, and most of all, writing poems. She will always be remembered as a goal setter with an unending willingness to learn, and above all, as a person who accepted people for who they were.

The funds for the scholarship come from an endowment established by Mr. and Mrs. Maloney, family and friends.
