The McCalmont Family Scholarship
Awarded to a rising junior or senior Flight Operations student with strong academic and personal performance.

Established in the year 2000 by Arnold and Rebekah McCalmont of Hollis New Hampshire, avid aviators and supporters of young people and of higher education.

This award is given to a rising junior or senior Flight Operations student who demonstrates strong academic and personal performance. Financial need is also considered.  Believing in the philosophy that a good work ethic enhances one's education and values, the recipient is expected to work with the family in their hanger for 8-10 hours per month during the semester months.  While the recipient is to be selected by the College, the McCalmonts also wish to interview the final candidates. The award is to be applied toward tuition for the next year (half each semester). The recipient has an opportunity to have the scholarship renewed for his/her senior year based upon continued acceptable performance.

To nominate a student for the McCalmont Family Scholarship the following should be submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs:

The Award Nomination Fact Sheet that describes how the nominee meets the award criteria specified and why he/she should be recognized for it.

  • Additional letters of support may be submitted.
  • Submit a schedule of availability for interviews.

The submission deadline is Monday, February 18, 2008 by 5:00 pm.

Nomination information may be submitted individually or as part of a package by more than one person. Multiple nomination forms for one person are accepted and will be considered as a group. The Academic Awards Committee will select up to three nominees for this award. If a student is to be nominated for more than one award, an Award Nomination Fact Sheet must be submitted separately for each award. The recipient of the McCalmont Family Scholarship will be selected by the faculty in the division of Humanities and Social Science during the second week of March. Families of nominees will be invited to attend the awards ceremony. Notification of this student scholarship will be made in the spring. Recognition of this award will take place at the Fall Opening Convocation on September 18, 2008.

Further information regarding scholarships and awards is available in the Office for Academic Affairs and the Office of Development. Award Nomination Fact Sheets are also available in those two locations. Information may be found on the DWC Scholarship and Awards pages as well.
