Eagles Swept In Season Opener To R.I. College
Tampa, Fla. – The 2008 edition of the Daniel Webster Baseball team kicked
off today with a double header loss to Rhode Island College 15-2 and 14-5.
Senior Right Hander Aaron Freedman (Randolph, Mass.) took the hill in game one
going 4 2/3 innings while allowing 11 runs. He was followed by Joe Tamulonis
(Woodstock, N.H.) who got the last out of the 5th and then by Freshman Colby
Torres (Dighton, Mass.) who closed out the game. The offense was lead by
Catcher Charles Manning (Riverside, R.I.), who went 2-3 with 2 singles. Also
getting hits in game one were Torres, Zach Cantor (Windham, Maine), Nick
Michaud (Windsor Locks, Conn.), Trevor Duggleby (Nashua, N.H.) and Joe Welsh
(Litchfield, N.H.).
Game two started with the Eagles taking an early 3-0 lead after 2 innings
thanks to RBI’s from Rob Leary (Litchfield, N.H.) and Dan Dumenigo (Dighton,
Mass.).
Tamulonis pulled double duty by getting the start in game two and going
3 innings while allowing two runs. After the 2nd inning though, runs and
hits were tough to come by for the Eagles as the RIC pitching staff
stiffened up and shut them down for most of the rest of the game. Rob Leary
capped off the scoring for Daniel Webster with a solo Home Run to left
center to lead off the 5th , finishing the game 2-3 with 2 RBI’s.
The Eagles look to get into the win column tomorrow with a double header
against Cazenovia College, with the first pitch at 10 a.m.
