Late Rally Gives Eagles First Win As Part of Cazenovia Split

Tampa, Fla. – The Eagle baseball team got their first win of the season in thrilling fashion, while splitting a double header with Cazenovia College Monday.

In game one, sophomore Nick Michaud (Windsor Locks, Conn.) tossed tossing a solid complete game three-hitter, allowing two runs with seven strikeouts as the Eagles came from behind for a 3-2 victory.

Trailing 2-0 entering the fifth, Zach Cantor (Windham, ME) and Charles Manning (Riverside, R.I.) tied the game with back to back RBI singles.

In the bottom of the seventh, Colby Torres (Dighton, Mass.) and Joe Welsh (Litchfield, N.H.) connected for one out singles, and with Torres at third, Cazenovia pitcher Joe Fantacone balked in the game winning run. Also recording a hit in game one was Outfielder Caleb Spotts (Treverton, Penn.).

Game two was a pitchers duel in which Freshman Trevor Duggleby (Nashua, N.H.), after coming in relief of game two yesterday, did not miss a beat and went seven innings, allowing three runs while scattering six hits.

Again, the Eagles were not able to get anything going offensively until late in the game, this time until their last at bat. Trailing by three and with one out and the bases loaded, Joe Tamulonis (Woodstock, N.H.) stepped up and drilled a line drive triple to the left center gap to clear the bases and tie the game. Torres followed with a perfectly executed suicide squeeze to plate Tamulonis with the go ahead run.

But in the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles were unable to close the door as Cazenovia scored thanks to a base hit by Chad Salls to plate the tying run. After a scoreless top of the 8th, Tamulonis took the mound and was unable to extend the game to one more inning as Bryan Wilgoki lined a single to right scoring Bryan Evans from third for the 4-3 Cazenovia win.

The Eagles (1-3 0-0) look to get back in to the win column tomorrow at 11 A.M versus SUNY-IT. in their third of five double headers on this spring break trip.
