Swarthmore Pushes Past DWC
Saint Petersburg, Fla. – It was a tale of two games for the Eagles as they
were swept in a double header versus Swarthmore today.
In game one, the Swarthmore bats took control of the game early as they put
up at least one run in every inning on their way to a 16-0 romp of the
Eagles. Jared Staples (Rochester, NH), (0-1), started and took the loss for
Daniel Webster.
Game two was a different story as the Eagles were the ones who got the
offense going early as they put up 3 runs in the first inning thanks to RBI
singles from Trevor Duggleby (Nashua, NH) and Charles Manning (Riverside,
RI). The Eagles were able to push the lead all the way to 5-1 in the 3rd
thanks to a sacrifice fly from Jared Staples (Rochester, NH) that plated
Duggleby.
The Eagles though were unable hang on to this lead as Swarthmore slowly was
able to chip away and eventually tie the game in the 5th inning at 5–5. Then
in their final at bat, Swarthmore got the big hit that Daniel Webster was
not able to get when they had the chance. After a lead off single by Wiley
Archibald and a sacrifice bunt, James Bernard hit a line drive up the middle
to give Swarthmore a 6-5 victory. Nick Michaud (Windsor Lock, Ct), (1-1),
who came in relief of game two starter Trevor Duggleby took the loss for the
Eagles.
The Eagles (1-7) will play their final double header tomorrow starting at 11
am versus Mount Union.
