Another Late Comeback Delivers An Eagle Win
- DWC Rallies With Two In 7th To Top Rivier, Earn GNAC Split -

Nashua, NH – Rob Leary’s infield hit scored Joe Welsh from third in the bottom of the seventh inning capping a two-run rally as Daniel Webster came back to nip Rivier, 9-8 and salvage a doubleheader split with the Raiders in GNAC baseball action Saturday at Harvey Woods Field.

Rivier notched a 4-0 victory in the opener.

The win marked the second time in three games the Eagles had rallied for victory in their final at-bat.

The Eagles (4-17) came back after the Raiders (12-8) had forged ahead with a three-run rally in the top of the seventh, rebounding from an early 6-0 deficit.

Jared Staples led the Eagles with three hits and knocked in five runs. Leary added his second homer of the season, a solo shot in the sixth.

Dan Dumenigo (1-0) went the distance for Daniel Webster, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits, striking out four and walking five.

Franco Pisano took the loss.

The Eagles jumped ahead scoring three in the second keyed by a two-run single from Staples. Staples went to work again in two third, swatting a two-run double plating Zach Cantor and Welsh for a 5-0 lead.

Dumenigo drew a bases loaded hits batsman in the fifth for a 6-0 game, before Rivier began climbing back.

Rivier knocked in two in the fifth and Pisano launched a three-run shot in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to one.

Leary answered with a 415 foot shot in the bottom of the frame for a 7-5 lead before Rivier rallied, scoring three in the seventh including RBI singles from Isaac Burkett and Chris Hunt to tie it and a sac fly from John Nicoloro plating Joe Gargan for the go-ahead run, setting up the Eagles’ rally.

In the opener, Pisano tossed a four-hit gem, striking out 10 and walking two over seven innings and was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate, while Roger Larochelle was 3 for 4. Kevin Moyer and Ryan O’Connor knocked in single runs for the Raiders.

The Eagles travel to Johnson & Wales Sunday for GNAC doubleheader.
