Eagles Fall To Calumet, Florham
(Orlando, Fla.) – The Daniel Webster baseball team dropped two games at the
Disney Wide World of Sports Complex Wednesday, falling to Calumet Saint
Joseph 8-1 and Farleigh Dickinson-Florham 9-5.
In the opener against Calumet, the Eaqles managed just five hits but hurt
themselves committing 10 errors leading to all eight Calumet runs being
unearned. Chris Gleason (South Salem, N.Y.) took the loss (0-1), allowing
five runs (none earned) on four hits over four innings.
Freshman Christal Fitzgerald (Sydney, Australia) became the first
international female player to knock in a run when her RBI single in the
second scored Dan Haynes (Downsville, N.Y.) from second to cut the lead at
the time to 3-1. Shaun Hanson (Durham, N.H.) added a double.
In the nightcap loss to Florham, Joey Santillo (Mount Olive, N.J.) belted a
two-run homer and Dan Bellino (Jackson, N.J.) added two doubles to pace the
Devils (3-3).
Mike Sweeney (Foxboro, Mass.) led the Eagles (0-7) with two hits including a
sacrifice fly RBI in the first and RBI singles in the third and seventh.
Jared Galm (Kingston, N.Y.)took the loss (0-2), going the distance, allowing
five earned runs on eight hits over eight innings, striking out five and
walking five.
The Eagles close out their season opening Florida swing with a doubleheader
against Curry Thursday.
