Eagle Comeback Earns Split With Lions

(Nashua) –  Shaun Hanson went 4-for-4 with three RBI, Nick Culver went 3-for-3 with two RBI, and Casey Allan added three hits and knocked in two as DWC salvaged a GNAC doubleheader split with Emerson, rallying for a 12-5 game two comeback victory after falling 10-8 in the opener.

Allan (1-4) earned his first win of the season, a complete game, six hitter allowing five runs (four earned), striking out three and walking one.

Lucas Einstein added two hits and knocked in two for the Lions.

The Eagles (4-14, 1-5 GNAC) rallied from a 5-0 second inning deficit, scoring one in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth and broke the game open with five in the fifth.

Trailing 5-3 in the fourth, the Eagles were aided by three hits, four walks and two wild pitches. Allan helped his cause with an RBI single, while Shaun Hanson added a two-run double.

The Eagles tacked on the five in the fifth on five hits including another Allan RBI single and a two-run double from Nick Michaud, who finished with two hits.

In the opener, Peter Karl and Nick Hesketh knocked in two runs each to pace Emerson’s (3-13 / 2-4 GNAC) 10-8 victory. Dave Shemella (Stone Ridge, N.Y.) led the Eagles with two hits and two RBI.

The Eagles built a 3-0 lead through two before the Lions tied it with three in the third. After taking a 4-3 lead with an unearned run in the fourth, Emerson tacked on three in the fifth keyed by a two-run single from Karl.

Back-to-back RBI singles from Jamie Clouthier and Nick Hesketh in the fifth made it 9-3, before the Eagles rallied with four in the bottom half aided by two Lion errors and RBI singles from Mike Colette and Shemella.

An RBI single from Kent Anderson made it 10-7 in the top of the seventh, but the Eagles scraped for one in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single from Murphy. DWC put the tying run at the plate with two out, but Einstein got Shemella on a fly to left to earn the save.

DWC returns to action Thursday to host Newbury at 3:00 p.m. and visits Albertus Magnus Saturday.
