Eagles Roll Over Southern Vermont To Gain Split, 19-1
Nashua, N.H. - Casey Allan (South Berwick, Maine) went 3-for-4 with four RBI
and Chris Gleason (South Salem, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 with two RBI to lead
Daniel Webster past Southern Vermont, 19-1 in game two of a doubleheader
Saturday, giving the Eagles a split in a non-conference baseball matchup.
Nick Culver (Meriden, Conn.) added three hits and knocked in two, and
Michael Adams (Frankfort, Maine) added two hits and two RBI as the Eagles
(5-22) bounced back from a 6-3 game one loss. The nightcap was called after
five innings due to darkness.
Dave Shemella (Stone Ridge, N.Y.) earned the win on the mound (1-0) in his
first start of the season, allowing one earned run on one hit over five
innings, striking out eight.
Kyle Hoseit (Saco, Maine) took the loss, while knocking in the Mountaineers
(1-8) sole run in the top of the first.
In the opener, Jay Sutton (Alfred, Maine) went 2-for-4 knocking in two runs
and Hoseit added two hits and one RBI as the Mountaineers posted the 6-3
victory. SVC took control with five runs on two hits and three walks in the
second including a two-run single from Sutton.
Kevin Murphy (New Paltz, N.Y.) and Dan Haynes (Downsville, N.Y.) knocked in
consecutive runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-3, but the Eagles would
pull no closer.
Steve Nappi (Canton, Conn.) earned the victory, allowing three runs (two
earned) on five hits, striking out one and walking three, while Matt
Collette (Oceanside, N.Y.) took the loss (0-1).
The Eagles close out the regular season Sunday as they host Rivier in a GNAC
doubleheader beginning at Noon. Southern Vermont travels to Saint Joseph’s
(Vt.) Sunday at Noon.
