Eagles Win Inaugural Harvey Woods Baseball Classic
The Daniel Webster College baseball team won the inaugural Harvey Woods Fall
Baseball Classic this past weekend with a 2-1 overall record.
The Eagles topped cross town rival Rivier, 6-0, and fell behind 11-0 after
two innings to rally but fall short against Emerson, 13-10 in game two. But
the Eagles held on to win the title game, 3-1 over Emerson in a four-inning
game shortened due to darkness. Nick Culver had two hits in the victory.
Tournament MVP Casey Allan (S. Berwick, Maine) earned the win over the
Raiders combining for a no-hitter and finished the day hitting .375.
Offensive MVP Mike Sweeney hit 1.000 on the day with two hits, drawing four
walks, scored three times and stole three bases.
Pitching MVP Shaun Hanson won the title game as a starter, allowing one Lion
hit striking out five over four innings and added a team best three RBI on
the day.
Defensive MVP Ken Anderson of Emerson finished with four put outs, 11
assists, four double plays and no errors in the field.
Emerson had earned a spot in the final after eliminating Rivier, 7-3.
