McDermott Named Head Golf Coach, Assistant Men's Basketball Coach At DWC

(Nashua, N.H.) – Evan McDermott has been named Head Coach of the Daniel Webster College (DWC) men’s golf program and assistant coach of the men’s basketball program. The announcement was made by Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs for Athletics Phil Rowe.

“We are very pleased to welcome Evan aboard in these roles,” said Rowe. “He has demonstrated outstanding skills and a wealth of knowledge in both sports. Both programs will greatly benefit from his contributions.”

McDermott, who served as Assistant to the Director of Athletics this past season at DWC, is a native of Newport, R.I. and a 2004 graduate of Endicott College, where he was a four-year letter winner with the men’s basketball program.

“I am extremely excited to oversee the golf program and assist with our men’s basketball program,” noted McDermott. “The entire athletic program continues to take great strides forward and I look forward to helping build both teams into annual challengers for their respective conference championships.”

McDermott’s basketball appointment marks a reunion with Head Coach Jeremy Currier, as the two served as Endicott teammates throughout their four year careers. Together, the duo helped guide the Gulls to a four year overall record of 75-35 (.681) including a 42-12 (.778) mark in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. Their four-year run culminated in a CCC tournament championship and NCAA tournament appearance in 2004.

Prior to coming to DWC, McDermott served one season as Assistant Coach with the Salve Regina University men’s basketball program. He also served the two previous years as Facility Director of Hoop Specialists, a state-of-the-art basketball facility in North Andover, Mass. where he also offered instructional lessons and served as AAU Coach among numerous middle school and high school teams.

McDermott also served one season as basketball operations intern with the Boston Celtics.

On the links, McDermott is a former Director of Outside Services and Caddie Master for the Newport Country Club and oversaw golf operations during the 2006 United States Golf Association Women’s Open Championship.

A native of Newport, R.I., McDermott was a four year varsity letter winner in both golf and basketball at Rogers High School where he captained both squads and was a basketball all division and all academic selection.
