Eagles Athletics Announces 2008 Fall Schedules

Nashua, N.H. -- A new conference and a new varsity program highlight the fall 2008 athletics schedules, announced today by the Daniel Webster College Eagles Department of Athletics.  All times and dates are subject to change.

The Eagles will field seven fall programs as members of the newly-formed New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). New conference rivals include Bay Path College (Longmeadow, Mass.) Becker College (Leicester, Mass.), Elms College (Chicopee, Mass.), Lesley University (Cambridge, Mass.), Newbury College (Brookline, Mass.), Mitchell College (New London, Conn.), Southern Vermont College (Bennington, Vt.) and Wheelock College (Boston, Mass).

Headlining the fall season is the debut of the College’s varsity field hockey program. Under the direction of second -year head coach Caitlin Connolly, the Eagles will play a 13-game regular season schedule including five home dates. The Eagles open with a two-game road trip, including a historic first game on Monday, September 8th at Becker at 4:00 p.m.

After a stop at Regis on September 10th, the Eagles make a date with College history in their home opener when they host Bay Path on Saturday, September 13th at 1:00 p.m.

Along with Bay Path, home opponents include Elms, Wheelock, Thomas and Becker. Along with Becker and Regis, road contests include MIT, Castleton, Wheelock, Bay Path, Elms and Lasell.

All NECC field hockey programs will play a double round robin regular season to determine championship tournament seeding. Four teams will earn tournament bids.


The men’s soccer program will play a 16-match regular season circuit including seven home meetings. Second -year head coach Bill Lawler’s Eagles open with a three-game road trip starting Saturday, September 6th at New England College at Noon. After stops at Regis and Nichols, DWC opens their home slate Thursday, September 18th against former Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe St. Joseph’s (Maine) at 4:00 p.m.

The Eagles home dates also include meetings with Mitchell, Fisher, Rivier, Johnson State, Lesley and Becker. Road matches also include Southern Vermont, Suffolk, Mount Ida, Elms, Emerson, and Newbury.

All NECC men’s soccer programs will face each other once in the regular season to determine championship tournament seeding. Four teams will earn tournament bids.


Fourth-year head coach Tom McGuinness’s women’s soccer squad will play a 16-match schedule, opening the season with a two-game home stand. The Eagles open up Sunday, September 7th against Anna Maria at 2:00 p.m. and follow with a 3:30 p.m. matchup with Suffolk on Wednesday, September 10th. The Eagles open their road slate Saturday, September 13th at Bay Path at 1:00 p.m.

The home schedule also includes meetings with Southern Vermont, Fisher, Elms, Green Mountain, Newbury, Rivier, and Wheelock. The Eagles also travel to Regis, Lesley, Pine Manor, New England College, Mitchell, and Becker.

All NECC women’s soccer programs will face each other once in the regular season game determine championship tournament seeding. Six teams will earn tournament bids.


The women’s volleyball program, under the guidance of first -year head coach Braden Zamore, is slated for a 21-match salute in their first season in the NECC. The Eagles open with six straight road matches, starting with a visit to Thomas on Sunday, September 7th at 2:30 p.m. followed by stops at Hesser, Suffolk, Southern Vermont (with Mitchell), and Norwich.

The Eagles serve up their seven-match home schedule Saturday, September 27th against Simmons and Castleton in tri-match action at 10:00 a.m. Home matches also include visits from Lesley, Becker, Pine Manor, Newbury and Elms.

The Eagles also travel to Lyndon State, Mount Ida, Becker (with Regis), Wentworth, Rivier, and Bay Path (with Castleton).

All NECC women’s volleyball programs will face each other once in the regular season to determine championship tournament seeding. Six teams will earn tournament bids.


The men’s and women’s cross country programs will run a seven-course regular season schedule. First -year men’s head coach Mike Rocco and first year women’s head coach Heather Jacobs will lead their harriers to Biddeford, Maine on Saturday, September 13th to open the season at the University of New England Invitational.

The teams return home to host the annual DWC Invitational Friday, September 19th.

The squads head to the Rivier Invitational Friday, September 26th, split up Saturday October 4th with the men traveling to Gordon and the women heading to St. Joseph’s (Conn.), and close out the campaign at Roger Williams and at New Hampshire Technical Institute.

The inaugural NECC men’s and women’s cross country championships take place Saturday, October 25th at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.


The men’s golf program, under the direction of first year head coach Evan McDermott, will participate in four regular season outings, along with the inaugural NECC championships.

The Eagles open at Mitchell on Wednesday, September 17th where they will also face Becker and Nichols.

The schedule continues with a visit to the Blazer Invitational at Elms on Wednesday, October 1st, and a head-to-head meeting with Newbury on Friday, October 3rd.

The NECC Championships take place Saturday and Sunday, October 11th and 12th at Chicopee Country Club, hosted by Elms.

The Eagles close the regular season Saturday, October 25th at Becker as part of a tri-match with Anna Maria.
