Drazen, Boyd Named Eagle Athletes of the Month
Sophomore men’s cross country runner Josh Drazen of Hudson, N.H and freshman
volleyball middle hitter Ashley Boyd of Hanson, Mass., have been named the
Daniel Webster College Eagle “Athletes of the Month,” for October 2006 as
selected by the DWC Athlete of the Month committee.
Drazen, an anchor of the Eagles' developing program, placed third (of 12) at the Franklin Pierce Invitational October 5th
with a time of 33:10, placed 17th (of 47) at the Emmanuel Saints
Invitational on October 13th with a time of 29:54, and took 18th (of 82)
with a time of 31:47 at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference
championships held October 28th at Rivier College in Nashua, N.H.
The Eagles topped Rivier head-to-head at the two-team Franklin Pierce
Invite, placed fifth of six at Emmanuel, and placed fifth of nine at the
GNAC Championship under Head Coach Cori Hughes.
Boyd enjoyed an outstanding month for the women’s volleyball program. Over a
span of eight matches (27 games in all), Boyd averaged 1.67 kills, 1.03
digs, 0.81 blocks and 0.37 aces per game. She enjoyed three outings of seven
kills or better including a month high eight kills in a loss to Southern
Vermont on October 7th. Her best outing overall was a season best 12-kill,
five-ace, six-dig, four-block effort in a 3-1 victory over Elms on October
18th.
Boyd finished the season averaging 1.39 kills per game (second on the
squad), a team best 1.26 blocks, and added 1.06 digs and 0.42 aces.
The Eagles posted a 6-11 overall record including a 4-7 mark in GNAC play
under first year Head Coach Tammy Lambrou.
