Emmanuel Tops Eagles, 88-75

Nashua, N.H. -- The duo of Rob Williams-Hinton and Levi Smith notched 20 points each while Mack Spellman added 16 leading Emmanuel past host Daniel Webster, 88-75 in GNAC men’s basketball action Tuesday night.

Andres Bustamante added a game high 12 rebounds and kicked in with five points as the Saints never trailed and maintained their GNAC lead as they improved to 3-0 (4-4 overall).

Brian Inge (Fort Washington, Md.) led the Eagles (3-5, 1-2 GNAC) with 18 points, while Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) added 14 points and seven boards, while Tim Jackson (West Henrietta, N.Y.) added 14 points and three steals.

Both teams shot well, with Emmanuel finishing a shade over 48%, while the Eagles shot 46%, but rebounding was key as the Saints finished with a 40-33 edge and pulled in 16 total steals.

Down five at the break, the Eagles fell behind by nine at 48-39 on a Williams-Hinton layup a minute into the second stanza, but rallied with two quick treys from Jackson and another from Inge to tie it at 48 with 17:14 left.

But Emmanuel took control taking advantage of four Eagle turnovers and four misses and put together a 13-0 run consuming a 3:18 span keyed by seven points from Spellman.

The Eagles responded with a 9-0 spurt over the next four minutes and Chris Voukides (Salem, N.H.) knocked down two free throws for a 61-59 game with 9:56 to go.

But Tony Carter-Hill (Baltimore, Md.) answered with a three pointer and the Saints would never allow DWC closer than four points the rest of the way. Spellman helped seal the win, knocking down five of six at the line over the final 58 seconds.

The Eagles return to action Thursday night as they host Mount Ida at 8:00 p.m. The game concludes a doubleheader as the Eagle women’s team hosts Bay Path at 6:00 p.m.

Emmanuel travels to Suffolk for a Thursday night meeting at 7:30 p.m.
