Monks Cool Off Eagles, 89-78
Nashua –
Ray Eatmon (Huntington, N.Y.) notched 18 points and added nine rebounds and
four blocks leading four players in double figures as St. Joseph’s of Maine
cooled off host Daniel Webster, 89-78 in a GNAC men’s basketball matchup
Tuesday night, halting the Eagles’ four-game winning streak.
Alberto Rue (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) added 15 points including three three
pointers, Elbie Murphy (Loudonville, N.Y.) hit for 14 with six assists, and
R.J. Mattison (Hamden, Conn.) notched 11 as the Monks (11-10, 9-5 GNAC)
moved above .500 for the season and maintained their hold on fifth place in
the GNAC standings.
Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) led all scorers for the Eagles (7-14, 5-11 GNAC)
with 20 points including four from outside the arc, while A.J. Hemingway
(Staten Island, N.Y.) notched 14 with nine rebounds and Tim Jackson (W.
Henrietta, N.Y.) added 10 points and three steals.
Leading by four at the half (40-36), St. Joseph’s pulled away in the second,
shooting 54% as a team and limited the Eagles to just six points over the
first 6:13 in opening up a 56-41 lead keyed by six points from Eatmon.
Trailing by 15 with 10:34 to play, the Eagles strung together a quick 7-2
run keyed by a Hanson trey and a Steve Savage (Salem, N.H.) layup for a
67-57 game with 8:44 left.
But Murphy followed with a layup and Alonso Davis (Richmond, Va.) added a
jumper in the lane to regain a 14-point edge and the Eagles pulled no closer
than eight the rest of the way.
DWC returns to action Thursday when they travel to Nichols for a 7:00 p.m.
non conference matchup, while St. Joseph’s hosts Norwich in a GNAC matchup
Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
