Eagles Fall In Exhibition Opener at The Citadel
(Charleston, SC) – In the first meeting of a Daniel Webster athletic program
against a Division I opponent, the Eagles dropped a 131-79 decision to the
Citadel before 743 patrons Friday night.
The meeting marked not only the first game between the two schools, but the
first Division I opponent for Daniel Webster since it joined the NCAA in
1989.
The game was the official season opener for the Bulldogs (1-0), while the
game was an allowed exhibition for the Eagles and does not count against
their record.
Brian Inge led all Eagle scorers, tying the Bulldogs’ Phil Pandak with 24
points on 7 of 17 shooting from the field including four three pointers, and
went 6 of 7 from the line.
Chris Hanson added 19 points with a team high eight boards, while Ahmad
Hemingway also reached double figures with 11 points and six boards.
The Bulldogs were paced by Pandak’s 24, along with six others reaching
double figures including Austin Dahn’s 20 and Cameron Wells’ 17.
The Bulldogs opened up a 21-10 lead over the first six and half minutes,
then exploded to shoot 55% in the first half and built a 66-34 lead at the
break. The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 57% thanks to a 62% clip in
the second.
The Bulldogs also finished with a 55-41 advantage on the boards.
The Eagles open the 2007-08 campaign officially next weekend as they host
the Best Western Tip Off at Vagge Gymnasium. The four-team tourney features
the Eagles, Centenary (N.J.), Mass. College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) and Green
Mountain.
On Friday, MCLA faces Centenary at 5:30 with the Eagles to face Green
Mountain at 7:30 p.m. The tournament concludes Saturday with the consolation at
1:00 p.m. and the championship following at 3:00 p.m.
Citadel does not mark the only Division I opponent on the schedule for the
Eagles this season. DWC will head north on December 15th to face Dartmouth
College of the Ivy League in one of the most anticipated athletics events in
the College’s history. The tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
