Bryant Earns Third GNAC Rookie Honor

For the third time this season, Daniel Webster men’s basketball standout Jamie Bryant of Hartford, Conn. has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week.

Bryant, a shooting guard, was a standout despite the Eagles’ 0-3 record last week, averaging 20.3 points, 3.67 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals, while shooting 48% (26-54) from the field. Bryant notched 20 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals against Rivier February 13th, and added 14 points, four boards, five assists, and four steals against Newbury February 15th.

Bryant saved his best performance for last with a game high 27 points, knocked down 10 of 20 from the field, hit three three pointers, and was 4 of 6 from the free throw line, while adding three rebounds and two assists against Johnson & Wales on February 17th.

Bryant, who stands second on the team in scoring average at 15.4 points per game, also leads the team in minutes played (28.2), total field goals (129), field goal attempts (272), shooting percentage (.474), steals (2.4) and is second in assists (2.5).

Among GNAC leaders, Bryant stands ninth in scoring, ninth in field goal percentage, and third in steals.

The Rookie of the Week award is the third this season for Bryant, who is also a finalist for GNAC Rookie of the Year honors. Bryant also earned the award December 5th and January 23rd.

The Eagles are 6-17 under first year Head Coach Eddie Quick, and the program has shown remarkable improvement after a winless 2005-06 campaign. The Eagles earned the eighth and final seed for the GNAC championship tournament and travel to top seed Western New England Tuesday, February 20th at 7:30 p.m.
