Bryant Earns Third GNAC Rookie Honor
For
the third time this season, Daniel Webster men’s basketball standout Jamie
Bryant of Hartford, Conn. has been named the Great Northeast Athletic
Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week.
Bryant, a shooting guard, was a standout despite the Eagles’ 0-3 record last
week, averaging 20.3 points, 3.67 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals,
while shooting 48% (26-54) from the field. Bryant notched 20 points, four
rebounds, three assists, and three steals against Rivier February 13th, and
added 14 points, four boards, five assists, and four steals against Newbury
February 15th.
Bryant saved his best performance for last with a game high 27 points,
knocked down 10 of 20 from the field, hit three three pointers, and was 4 of
6 from the free throw line, while adding three rebounds and two assists
against Johnson & Wales on February 17th.
Bryant, who stands second on the team in scoring average at 15.4 points per
game, also leads the team in minutes played (28.2), total field goals (129),
field goal attempts (272), shooting percentage (.474), steals (2.4) and is
second in assists (2.5).
Among GNAC leaders, Bryant stands ninth in scoring, ninth in field goal
percentage, and third in steals.
The Rookie of the Week award is the third this season for Bryant, who is
also a finalist for GNAC Rookie of the Year honors. Bryant also earned the
award December 5th and January 23rd.
The Eagles are 6-17 under first year Head Coach Eddie Quick, and the program
has shown remarkable improvement after a winless 2005-06 campaign. The
Eagles earned the eighth and final seed for the GNAC championship tournament
and travel to top seed Western New England Tuesday, February 20th at 7:30
p.m.
