Brookline, Mass. - Kevin Cleveland (Lynn, Mass.)
scored 16 of his game high 22 points in the second half to lead Newbury
College to a solid 80-71 victory over the visiting Eagles from Daniel
Webster. Cleveland also hauled in 10 rebounds, to register a double double
on the night. Junior co-captain Arch Mitchell (Framingham, Mass.) also
enjoyed a productive night, tossing in 21 points on the night.
The Eagles played well in spurts, gaining the lead on a couple of occasions
in the second half. Toby Jiminez (Worcester, Mass.) and Jamie Bryant
(Hartford, Conn.) were high scorers for the visitors, scoring 14 points a
piece. Contributing a double double with 13 points, 11 rebounds was Warren
Wiggins (Hartford, Conn.).
Newbury improves to 13-10, and will travel to Mitchell College on Saturday.
Daniel Webster drops to 6-16 and travels to Johnson & Wales Saturday. The
Eagles remain alive for the eighth and final GNAC playoff spot. Regardless
of a win or loss, the Eagles would qualify with an Albertus Magnus loss to
Rivier as the Eagles own the conference tiebreaker with the Falcons.
