Golden Bears End Eagles Run In GNAC Quarters

, Mass. - Junior forward Jim Bayne (Bristol, CT) scored 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds as top-seeded Western New England College notched an 81-50 victory over eighth-seeded Daniel Webster College in a quarterfinal round game of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament Tuesday.

It was the 11th consecutive win for the Golden Bears who raised their record to 19-7.

Sophomore forward Kyle Fredette (Wallingford, VT) added 14 points and six rebounds while junior guard Ryan Hernandez (Hampton Bays, NY) contributed 11 points off the bench. Sophomore guard Matt Maynard (Paterson, NJ) had nine points and six rebounds while junior guard Asif Abdul-Wadud (Springfield, MA) netted six points with seven assists.

Daniel Webster received 10 points from both junior guard Ryan Middlemiss (Methuen, MA) and freshman guard Jamie Bryant (Hartford, CT). Tyler Smith (Moultonborough, NH) added nine points while Adam Greeno (Brandon VT) chipped in with eight. Warren Wiggins (Hartford, CT) finished with six points, eoght boards and four blocks.

The Eagles, one of the youngest teams in the conference, finished the season with a 6-18 record and will lose no seniors to graduation.
