Eagles Fall to Pilgrims in Opener

(Manchester, N.H.) – New England College men’s lacrosse got their first
victory of the season in a 16-2 win over opponent Daniel Webster Thursday
evening at Southern New Hampshire University. NEC’s Dillon Lantz (Woodstock,
VT) netted four goals in the second period alone for the Pilgrims (1-2).
The Pilgrims wasted no time in the first quarter, jumping out to a 3-0 lead
as freshman midfielder Anthony Savino (Medford, NY) scored his first of
three goals at 11:33. Daniel Webster answered right back with a score at
6:38 by junior attack Brandon Bell (Loudon, NH) to make it 3-1.
NEC would hold the Eagles scoreless throughout the entire second period, as
they scored nine goals of their own. NEC’s Dave Gardiner started the scoring
off at 13:31 in the second, followed less than a minute later by Savino’s
second score to go up 5-1. Junior Dan Foster (Wiscasset, ME) and junior Kyle
Burke (Winnetka, IL) each netted a goal for the Pilgrims before Lantz went
on his four-goal streak. Pilgrim Matt Quinton (Elora, Ontario) also scored
in the second quarter to put NEC up 13-1 heading into half time.
In the third, junior Carlos Gutierrez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) scored
unassisted at 11:23 and Savino netted his third goal of the night at 10:41.
NEC’s Quinton scored his second goal to put his Pilgrims up 15-1. After
being held scoreless for nearly 28 minutes the Eagle’s sophomore Brian
Abrahamson (Dedham, MA) got DWC’s second and final goal of the night.
