Mount Ida Rushes Past Eagles
(Nashua) – Leo Shidler (Peabody, Mass.) notched six goals and added an
assist, while Andrew Cloonan (Franklin, Mass.) added three goals and four
assists off the bench, guiding Mount Ida past host Daniel Webster, 20-1 in a
North Atlantic Conference matchup Thursday.
The win inched the Mustangs (9-3, 6-0 NAC) closer to clinching the NAC
regular season title. Mount Ida, which has now won 28 consecutive league
games, can clinch the title and the top seed for the upcoming conference
tournament outright Saturday when they host Castleton (4-0 NAC), which has
three conference games remaining.
The loss does not hurt the Eagles chances for the post-season as DWC (5-4,
4-2 NAC) has clinched no lower than third place in the standings and could
jump ahead of Castleton if the Eagles defeat Becker Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
and Castleton drops its final three league games.
Mount Ida set the tempo early, scoring six times in the opening quarter and
led 10-0 at the half. The Mustangs finished with advantages in shots on goal
(32-10), ground balls (31-24) and face offs (13-2).
Brett Conley (Fairfield, Conn.) added three goals and two assists for Mount
Ida, while John Lightbown (Melrose, Mass.) added two goals and two assists,
and Alex Champagne (East Greenwich, R.I.) notched three goals. Chris
Prophete (Waltham, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and three assists.
Colby Field (Hollis, N.H.) registered the lone Eagle score in the fourth,
breaking up the shutout bid of Kyle Bowler (Glastonbury, Conn.), who
registered nine saves. Eagle counterpart Adam McKellar (Biddeford, Maine)
finished with 12 stops.
