For the second consecutive week, a pair of Eagle men’s lacrosse student-athletes have been honored by the
North Atlantic Conference (NAC).
Sophomore attack Brian Abrahamson (stats) of Dedham, Mass. has been named the NAC “Player
of the Week” while freshman goalkeeper Adam McKellar of Biddeford, Maine has
been named the NAC “Rookie of the Week” for the second straight week. The announcements were made by the NAC
conference office.
Abrahamson was a key component of the Eagles' only game and victory last
week, an 8-7 sudden death overtime victory at NAC rival Maine Maritime.
Abrahamson notched three goals including the game winner in overtime, while
adding an assist and three groundballs in the effort.
Abrahamson notched the
Eagles second goal in the firth quarter, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead at the
time, put the Eagles up 5-4 in the third quarter, and added the game winner
in the extra session off a Colby Field pass.
Abrahamson's award comes on the heels of teammate Brandon Bell picking up
the
same award last week. On the season,
Abrahamson has notched eight goals and five assists for 13 points, second on
the squad.
McKellar (stats) garnered his second straight Rookie Award with a sparkling 21-save
performance in the victory including eight stops in the fourth quarter. The
win was his third straight after an 0-2 start to the season. His 21 saves
was a season high, surpassing an outstanding 18-save performance against
Johnson State on March 28th.
On the season, McKellar sports an 8.97 GAA and .622 save percentage in five
starts totaling 301 minutes.
Under the tutelage of last season's NAC “Coach of the Year” Tim Lunn (bio), the Eagles
stand 3-2 overall and remain alone in first place in conference play with a
3-0 record.
The Eagles have a busy week ahead, traveling to Mitchell for a non-league
matchup Monday at 3:00 p.m., head out to Castleton (2-0 in NAC play) Wednesday
in a pivotal NAC showdown, and host Thomas Saturday in another important NAC
contest.
