Leyland's Two Strikes Lift Eagles to First Win, 2-0

Bennington, Vt. -- Sophomore Chris Leyland (New Hope, Penn.) notched goals in the 4th and 50th minute and the Daniel Webster College team defense held host Southern Vermont to five total shots as part of a 2-0 victory Saturday afternoon.

It was the first victory of the season for the Eagles, who improved to 1-3 overall  and in the process won their inaugural NECC contest, as they moved to 1-0 in league play.

Leyland got the Eagles going 4:41 in with an unassisted tally and added his second at the 50:29 mark.

Newcomer Joe Keene (Bristol, N.H.) registered four saves in goal for the victory. The Eagles finished with a 16-5 total shots advantage.

Daniel Webster returns to action Monday when they travel to Regis College. The game is a makeup from September 9th, which was rained out.
