Newton, Mass. -- Sophomore Hermes Lima (Boston, MA/West Roxbury) netted two
goals to boost the Mustangs over Daniel Webster College today at Mount Ida
athletic stadium winning 3-1 in non-conference action. The Mustangs would
improve to 4-2-3 overall while the Eagles saw their three-game win streak
halted as they dropped to 3-4 on the season.
Before Lima started the scoring
for Mount Ida, junior Billy Beauzile (Brooklyn, New York/Samuel J. Tilden)
hammered an attempt from the left side of the box that sailed over the
crossbar at 36:54 in the first half, sparking a strong attack from the
Mustangs early on.
Four minutes later, sophomore
Hayato Kanesaka (Old Tappen, NJ/Northern Valley) collected a ball in the front
of the Mount Ida net and headed down the left side of the field like a rocket.
He went coast-to-coast, placing a perfect ball at the feet of Lima who smoked
it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead at the 32 minute mark in the
first stanza.
The Eagles would answer in the
opening minutes of the second half on an unassisted goal by freshman Spencer
Bernard (Windsor Locks, CT/Windsor Locks). Unfortunately for the visitors,
Mount Ida would regain the lead no more than a minute later. Senior Brandon
Chuba (Wallingford, CT/Wallingford) crossed a corner kick from the right side
of the field for junior Leo Roy (Manchester, NH/Goffstown Area) to flick into
the net. The Mustangs took the 2-1 advantage with 43:01 in regulation and it
was Roy's first goal of the season.
The action was stagnant throughout the remainder of the game until the 78th
minute when Mount Ida sealed off the victory on Lima's second goal. This one
coming off a cross from senior Jean Demorcy (Jersey City, NJ/Ferris) that was
re-directed by freshman Ty Taylor (South Africa/Krysersdorp) for Lima to poke
in for the 3-1 victory.
Mustang goalkeeper Kevin
DosSantos (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland/C.C.R.I.) and Eagles goalie Fred Jacobs
(Wrentham, MA/King Philip) denied five shots piece and both squads matched 15
shots. There were two cautions, both coming from Mount Ida.
The Mustangs, who haven't lost
in the past five contest going 3-0-2, will head to Rivier College this coming
Wednesday starting at 7:00 p.m. for their third Great Northeast Athletic
Conference (GNAC) match-up of the season.
