Bernard's Hat Trick Paces Eagles Past
Fisher, 5-1
Nashua -- Freshman Spencer Bernard (Windsor Locks, Conn.) registered a hat
trick within the opening 30 minutes and the Daniel Webster men’s soccer team
scored five times in the first half on the way to a 5-1 victory over Fisher
College Thursday afternoon at Eagle Field.
Nicholas Klesh (Bedford, N.H.) and Mike Madonia (Pittsford, N.Y.) added
single scores as the Eagles won for the fourth time in their last five
outings and evened their record at 4-4 overall.
With the victory, the squad
equaled its combined wins totals over the previous three seasons.
Joe Keene (Bristol, N.H.) combined with Fred Jacobs (Wrentham, Mass.) and
Tom Al Naber (Parkton, Md.) for the win. The Eagles controlled the
contest throughout, finishing with a 23-4 total shots advantage including an
8-1 advantage on goal.
Greg Jackson (Bellingham, Mass.) made eight saves for the Falcons (0-9).
Bernard got the Eagles going just 2:24 in with an unassisted tally and Klesh
followed with a 10 yarder to the left side at the 20:31 mark.
Bernard notched his second of the day five minutes later on a pretty header
to the top center of the net off a Mike Lohr (Chepachet, R.I.) cross pass.
Madonia followed at the 26:22 mark taking a give-and-go from Matt Batista
and beat Jackson to the low right corner for a 4-0 advantage.
Bernard reached the hat trick with an unassisted tally in the 29th minute.
Fisher broke the shutout on a nifty free kick from rookie Fasil Khayat that
rode a stiff breeze and hooked into the back right corner in the 33rd
minute.
The Eagles return to action Saturday when they travel to Elms College for a
New England Collegiate Conference meeting beginning at 3:00 p.m.
