Condit, Lohr Connect To Tip Badgers In OT, 1-0
Nashua – Daniel Webster College sophomore cornerback Parker Condit (Newton,
N.J.) hasn’t had a lot of opportunities to score this season, but he took
advantage of the one he was offered Tuesday afternoon.
The defensive anchor perfectly headed home junior Mike Lohr’s (Chepachet,
R.I.) corner kick with 5:55 remaining in the second overtime session, giving
the Eagles a thrilling 1-0 victory over Johnson State College at Eagles
Field in a regional matchup.
Condit’s game-winner, just his second score of the season, gave the Eagles
their second straight victory in improving to 7-6 overall. In the process,
the Eagles tied the all time program record for wins in a season. The Eagles
previous best record was a 7-11 mark in 2003.
The game was a defensive affair throughout as the teams played a very evenly
matched contest. The Eagles finished with a 22-11 total shots advantage, but
shots on goal was significantly closer, with Daniel Webster earning a 7-4
edge.
Rookie Joe Keene (Bristol, N.H.) made all four saves for the Eagles for his
fifth victory of the year, while Badger senior Kegan Pettit (South Freeport,
Maine) took the tough-luck loss, finishing with six stops, including two
beauties in the closing minutes of regulation.
The Eagles almost won it on two occasions in the final four minutes of
period two. Freshman Alex Jackson (Kent, Ohio) took a short pass in front
from Matt Battista (Pittsford, N.Y.) and sent a low shot that Pettit blocked
with four and half minutes remaining and Pettit followed with a diving slap
away of a Jackson bid with 10 seconds left. The rebound fell back on
Jackson’s foot but his rebound attempt slipped just wide of the right corner
leading to the extra sessions.
Neither team mounted a serious threat in the extra sessions until the Eagles
drew a corner kick in the 104th, leading to Lohr and Condit’s winner.
The Eagles now turn their attention to their three remaining regular season
New England Collegiate Conference contests as they jockey for playoff
positioning. 2-1 in league play, the Eagles travel to Newbury College
Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. meeting.
Johnson State hosts intrastate rival Lyndon State in an equally pivotal
North Atlantic Conference matchup beginning at 3:00 p.m. 3-2 in league play,
the Badgers are currently tied with Maine-Farmington for third place in the
NAC standings with two games remaining.
